Pronounced microcephaly in a patient with malignant migrating partial seizures in infancy.

چکیده
Malignant migrating partial seizures in infancy is an age-specific epilepsy syndrome, resistant to conventional antiepileptic drugs in most cases. Since the first description of 14 infants in 1995, only 16 additional patients have been reported. We add a further case and present a video that shows a typical generalizing tonic seizure arising from the right temporo-occipital area and slowly spreading about both hemispheres. In addition to other symptoms previously described, almost complete arrest of brain growth with onset of seizures and evolution of distinctive secondary microcephaly were striking features in this patient. متن کاملTemporal lobe dual pathology in malignant migrating partial seizures in infancy.
A child had the characteristic clinical and EEG pattern of migrating partial seizures in infancy with left temporal lobe atrophy, hippocampal sclerosis and cortical-subcortical blurring. Seizures were drug-resistant, with recurring episodes of status epilepticus. The child developed microcephaly with arrest of psychomotor development. Focal brain lesions, in the context of migrating partial sei...
متن کاملPure cannabidiol in the treatment of malignant migrating partial seizures in infancy: a case report.
BACKGROUND Malignant migrating partial seizures in infancy is a devastating pharmacoresistent epileptic encephalopathy of unknown etiology characterized by onset in the first 6 months of life, continuous migrating focal seizures with corresponding multifocal electroencephalographic discharges, developmental deterioration, and early mortality. Recent widespread interest in the nonpsychoactive co...
متن کاملCongenital disorders of glycosylation presenting as epileptic encephalopathy with migrating partial seizures in infancy.
AIM Epilepsy is commonly observed in congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG), but no distinctive electroclinical pattern has been recognized. We aimed at identifying a characteristic clinical presentation that might help targeted diagnostic work-up. METHOD Based on the initial observation of an index case with CDG and migrating partial seizures, we evaluated 16 additional children with CD...
متن کاملMesial temporal lobe epilepsy associated with KCNT1 mutation
Several epilepsies such as malignant migrating partial seizures of infancy (MMPSI) and autosomal dominant nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy (ADNFLE) are caused by mutations in the sodiumactivated potassium channel named KCNT1 [1]. Together with their role in epileptic encephalopathies such as MMPSI, KCNT1 mutations are involved in intellectual disability [1]. This report highlights a new phenotyp...
